Alawathugoda Sri
Wijayawardanaramaya is a temple of mainly Alawathugoda village
and other villages closed to Bogahakumbura Town.
Alawathugoda village is at Welimada provincial division of Badulla district..
This temple was built at 1934 by
Rev. Uwe Pngnananda Thero. Before the 1934 Temple of
villagers was Kalabululanda Temple which is
at 4km far away from Alawathugoda. Villagers couldn't travel
to Kalabululanda because of the distance.
There were two greatest Buddhist monks in this temple.
They are Rev. Pandith Uwe pangnananda thero and Rev.
Pandith Uwe Silarathna thero. There after Rev. Kinigama
Dhammananda thero became the chief incumbent of this
temple.
Present
chief incumbent is Rev. Udoowara Dhamma Visudhdhi Thero
who is graduate in University of Sri Jayawardanapura,
Sri Lanka and teacher of Boralanda Dharmapala Maha
Vidyalaya.
Rev. Uwe Silarathana Thero made a branch in
Dehiwala to teach everything for monks called "Dehiwala
Shastrananda
Pirivena". During this period many Buddhist monks
studied in there.
This temple has
Dhamma School called Sri Pragnananda Dharma school
which is held on every Sunday. Alawathugoda new Dharma
hall was opened at 2008. Nanasala IT community center
was arrived to Alawathugoda temple. There after several
educational tasks have been held at temple of
Alawathugoda. Several societies to buildup the society
and villagers of Alawathugoda are at the village.
